How is it that Lancs has so many Premiership footie teams (8 out of 20) and Yorks has none? _________________ +

| Think it's because Yorkshire is traditionally a Rugby league county and Lancs was always more footie, and Yorks teams are generally crap at the minute. |

Yeh I get that about Rugby, but it'd be interesting to look at average attendances at the two Sheffs, Leeds, Hull versus Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn and now Blackpool. Even with the one or two divisions difference, I'd guess that the top three or four in that table would be from Yorks and given Premiership footie I'd guarantee all 4 top places. And maybe a double average attendance in some cases.
Those four clubs in 'size' or available fans are probably equivalent to a team like Barnsley. _________________ +

Nowt to do with rugby in mine. Football is a far more popular game than RL at school, amateur and the numbers that follow the proffesional game.
Example, Leeds, football team in the third tier of the game averaging 25,000. Leeds RL World Champions (ex) can't fill a 20,000 stadium once in a season with admission prices well below the football.
Lancs have as many RL teams.
Leeds, Sheffield x 2, Huddersfield, Barnsley, Bradford, Hull.
Just not good enough is the simple answer. Yorks teams have had their turns in the past and unfortunately hit a dip at a time when money is the key to success in most cases. The likes of Barnsley and Bradford were crippled by stints in the Prem. _________________ True Yorkshireman |

I think it's always been like this. We've had our moments, but the rest have won bugger all - at least in my lifetime.
Our cricket team is pretty shit as well now.
Perhaps were just a more contented lot with less to prove. Happy to sit back and enjoy the countryside/beer/women/sheep/chips.
Or Yorkshire millionaires are a bit tighter with their money. _________________ Black Beauty. Now there's a dark horse. |

its a good question. If Leeds dont start well and invest well we could be onto a real hiding - new boys, fallen giants, detested Yorkshire rivals to many many teams - lots of local derbies to contend with that will be fought bitterly by them and hopefully not meekly by our team _________________ Healing not hatred

I think you’ve nailed it there fc, although there was a time when Yorkshire teams were all powerful. You only have to listen to Hudders Town and Sheff Wednesday fans lauding the days none of them are old enough to remember when Zeppelin meant a fecking great balloon flying over an uncovered Wembley Stadium and not a hairy rock band. The days when Britain’s talent was stealing other people’s countries and not some minging club singer.
Yorkshire in those days mined the fuel, made the garments and forged the steel for the entire planet. Yorkshire was proud and wealthy and could show off with sporting prowess. The days of the blustering confident "say what I like and like what I bloody well say" Tyke are well gone. Decades of neglect, disputes and decay have rendered Gods own with a chronic confidence problem. Its people have morphed into insular and parochial cynics. Our Towns and cities have changed beyond recognition and there is no longer a unified spirit and cause for anything let alone a football team.
What we have kept though is the careful spending mentality and a watchful eye that knows when the piss is being taken. Very Few people splash their wealth about, even less with the carefree abandon that there Wigan fella does (whoever the feck he is , cant remember the blighter).
Ostentation and flamboyancy are frowned upon (which also explains
Yorkshires chronic underperforming in the rock n roll stakes but that’s another story).
Modern day football relies on qualities totally alien to the average Tyke these days. Potential wealthy owners and punters alike have much better things to do and spend money on and I cant blame them. The Mancs and scousers are massive organisations with fans all over the world, huge cities behind them with massive tradition. They should always do alright but I fear the trailing ones are living on a tightrope. They aren’t that much different to us, the only difference being they have some rich backers behind them but to me are living very precariously. _________________ I guess all songs is folk songs.
