Charlton at homeYEP reports that Marques, Higgs, Bromby and Crowe all likely to be unfit for Charlton, as well as Snodgrass.
Which gives us a defence of Caspar, Kisnorbo, Michalik, Hughes and presumably Naylor at right back. Parker still out of course.
I can see us having problems against Charlton's lightning quick forwards.

You could have a point there Butts. Mr Garson must have though of it, be interested to see how we try to combat it.

Missed the first 6 minutes as me & BLF were being good Samaritans to a lass who was pushing a wheelchair with a big strapping lad in it. As me & BLF were speed walking down to ER late as usual i heard as girl speaking i thought she must of been running past us. She was kinda while pushing a wheelchair. A gust of wind blew she hit the kerb the poor lad went flying into the middle of the road luckily no car hit him. He was a big unit it took 4 lads to get him back in his chair. I was told I'd missed a good long throw in when in took my seat.
We were the better team in the first half IMHO, Johnson & Doyle being our better players. Beckford should of at least hit the target after a cracking ball from Kilkenny. Also Johnson had a brilliant shot saved by the Charlton keeper. A bad injury to Becchio marred the 1st half replaced by Enoch.
Charlton made a substitution at h/t & looked the better team for most of the second half. Our passing became horrendous & theres much better than ours. Plenty of people out of sorts today Howson out wide didn't work, Beckford without Becchio like Batman without Robin, Kilkenny only played one decent ball from what i remember. Only the back line came out of this game with any credit Casper included apart from the kicking of course.
They looked good did Charlton & will be up there for sure. We never got at Richardson at all & Sodje was good although he's no Kisnorbo (he needs a t-shirt Mol). If we'd of had our best 11 out today we'd of asked more questions for sure even in blustery conditions.
In a bit of a slump in form with injuries etc But still unbeaten. The rest before Norwich will do us good i think.

beckford reminds me of Brian Deane but with a lot more goals at a lower level. Deane like beckford had the pace and instinct and athleticism to get into so many positions, so much possession one on one with the last defender or keeper and always seemed to fuck up the final finish
does anyone remember Leeds 3- Man U 1 Boxing Day 1995? should have got four or five but instinct or something was always lacking
Beckford misses far too many for all the plusses and goals he brings to the team. He does try the audacious like the overhead against Liverpool and the dipping curling one from distance vs carlisle - and yes he gets the occasional showstopper of a goal
but WHY OH WHY OH WHY does he miss the one on one's on the run and dare i say it... the fucking penalties?

My first of the season and I must say I think we're going to be OK on that showing with so many out and Becchio off for most of the game against the next best team in the division.
The wind played havoc but both goalies/ defences didn't help by continually looking for the long ball in the expectation that the swirl would cause problems for an opponent.
Beckford missed two great chances in the first half, the second after Howson put it on a virtual plate for him. He was his frustrating self in the second, seemingly unable to jump, run or kick.
If we'd have got Howson running from midfield past the forwards we'd have had more chances of causing them problems but the game was played out quite tightly in midfield with little width until they started to get down our right in the second half. They looked very nifty indeed and played some sublime stuff down that wing meaning that the immense Kisnorbo and Naylor needed to be on their mettle to cover for Bromby who is clearly more at ease in the middle himself.
Too many moves broke up in the final third, the ball wouldn't stick
but we really didn't look like conceding against a very decent attacking team which was the really encouraging aspect I thought.
On this showing I think we'll go up automatically but with Charlton and Norwich both pushing us very hard.
Great atmosphere today and at just under 32,000 a great turn out for for the only remaining unbeaten team in the FL.

What a poor game that was, certainly the wind played a big part in spoiling but if those are the best two sides in the division, god help the worst two.
I gave up my usual seat in the NE corner and sat in the West stand next to the kop, unfortunately the area where I sat appears to be the place where most of the stupidest, most ill-informed, knee-jerk, neanderthal followers of our club also chose to sit. I was sitting with my daughter (who had hurt her arm in a fall last night ,Turns out to have broken it but didn't want to miss the game, now in a cast) and I had to really put some effort in not to react to some of the pathetic, offensive and retarded comments from some of the people around us. There are an element of our fans who don't deserve a winning team, they have no idea how to support a team, for example the brain donor, quarter-wit sat directly behind me who, before Enoch had even set foot on the pitch as a substitute was up on his feet shouting " You're fucking shit, you cu*t " repeatedly. I believe he was unable to form a sentence without interjecting fuck or cunt in between each salient word. I quote..." I wish I hadn't fucking sat in this fucking shite stand, I'd rather not have fucking come then fucking sit in here"
Any misplaced pass ( and the conditions made them inevitable ) was met with howls of derision and winning headers from Enoch or Beckford were met with ironic cheers. OK, these people are a minority, but a sizeable minority.
Whilst I'm having a moan, I paid £31 a pop for my two seats in there, the facilities are completely inadequate for a large crowd, there seemed to be one toilet for about 5000 people and the crush at the back of the stand was verging on dangerous at half time. This is a by product of the rear of the West stand now having been carved up to cater for the corporate hospitality crowd, I'd love to see Mr Bates have to negotiate his way into those bogs in such circumstances. We deserve better.
Anyway, the game.
We started reasonably, Beckford was sent free on the left with a lovely defence splitting pass from I believe Howson but he lacked composure on the finish after getting himself in there.
Johnson had a decent long range effort saved by the Charlton keeper and they had a glancing header from a Richardson cross just wide.
The second half degenerated into a game of head tennis for the most part, not much to tell.
The players
Ankergren - looks decidedly shaky compared to Higgs but did make a decent double save in the second half ( Even though they were offside he wasn't to know)
Bromby - My first real look at him - not at all convinced, he did cause havoc early in the game with a long throw which was allowed to drop at the far post.
Kisnorbo - Superb, all action and no nonsense.
Naylor - shaky start but did well in the end with one particularly good last ditch tackle in the 2nd.
Hughes - playing on his wrong foot, very limited.
Howson - Ineffective playing wide right
Johnson - lacked composure and quality, starting to resume his normal poor service.
Kilkenny - quiet and in and out of the game
Doyle - workmanlike
Beckford - In Sodge's pocket, poor
Becchio, doing well till he stood on the ball and turned his ankle
Showumni (on for Becchio) very poor but badly needs a confidence boost and some support from the terraces.
Two poor performances ina week, we missed Snoddy and Becchio when he went off, we still lack width and balance and the break has come at a good time I think.
Post game, found I had lost my car key, no spare, had to get the car recovered and will have to fork out for new keys next week, definitely not our day.

As I've said before, I think the twatty fans come out for the 'big' games. Sounds like they left it late and couldn't get tickets anywhere else. I fucking hate them.
The only thing I can think of is to shout for whoever they've turned against, it's worked a treat for me in the past. They can hardly turn on a fellow Leeds fan for shouting support and it's easy to miss that within earshot of the wankers there's probably another hundred fans thinking, 'Twats.'

I had a few years in the West Stand when I bought the bond in 93. Occasionally you would get people like Leb has described sat around effing and Geffing and complaining about the lack of noise in the West Stand. It’s a completely different set up in there and everyone knows it so to go in there and carry on like it’s the Kop or South Stand is just moronic and it really is hard to bear without getting drawn in to some unpleasantness. I had an ace few years in there and got to know some really top class people who love the club as much as anyone and still go week in week out despite the ludicrouse charges our dear old chairman asks of them

I had the same in east stand yesterday. Why is it the biggest gobs know the least? I line of 5 fuckwits sat behind me and the lad and the biggest gob right behind my right earhole. With his lardy girlfriend. gah!
Had to comment on every pass or move and was cunting off every Leeds player or doing the amateur coaching bollocks 'use it!' or 'give, give, give!' usually when it was daft.
It was the stream of complete shite that got to me. I can handle encouragement, enthusiasm (bit beyond me these days, but hey I am tolerant) and even sarcasm and moaning provided its original or funny - but the stupidity and complete lack of any undertsanding of the game was sad.
I didn't feel like getting into an argument, because you know just where its going to end up and I had my lad with me - that part of the East stand seemed to be full of them, so I just got bored and a headache.

You're right ZG, there's absolutely no point in engaging these people as it can only end in one resolution, and its not worth it.

Were in the North East Corner & barring a lad asking Leb to sit down so he could see the half time entertainment we've had no bother. Maybe worth considering before the pricey West Stand.
Ive come to the conclusion that most Leeds fan's are a few sandwiches short of a picnic over the years. Following Leeds home & away Ive seen it all but don't let the bastards grind you down as hard as it is. Ever since all seating came in Ive never seen so many Leeds fans having a go at each other. I blame that more than owt. On the terracing it was mainly good constructive banter.

And there is the problem, they wont let you stand because you cant be trusted or Nanny says it isn't safe but your entertainment is ruined as you simply cant walk away from the idiot. You are strapped in next to them for the game, for the season perhaps.
Lib Dems during their conference said that they were going to look into allowing standing again. They say technology has improved (quite what that has to do with it i don't know) they also say that it is sometimes just as unsafe as people stand on the seats.

The thing that gets me is the complete lack of any brain coupled with a big mouth. Total gobshites. All they do is slag off everything if its not perfect. I mean we have 3rd divison players who lack technique, ability or the smarts to play at a higher level - so I can understand a comment here and there or a groan.
But this was 'knosborough you cunt, keep it down, Naylor to feet you wanker' and the rest of it. No fucking idea at all. All the time.
Combine that with this 'we are Leeds' arrogance and I remember now why I generally dislike so many Leeds fans. Only these days I don't tell them. well, not often.

For mine, the first half was average, the second poor.
OK, players missing then Bechio going off didn't help, and once we had Beckford and Sowumni partnered up front that was it for me. I thought them both embarrassing, Showumni for his plain lack of ability, I could find you a park's footballer who would contribute more than this guy. Then Beckford, he has been a great player for us for most of the time but all I saw yesterday was a complete lack of effort and application.
If I were Grayson I would sit through a re-run of the game with him wanting explanations to why he jumps away or under high ball's, total fucking embarrassment at times for me.
We looked alright at the back but slightly disjointed in midfield, Howson and Doyle in central midfield for me.
Still top, still unbeaten we shouldn't complain too much.
|

|
Every team has bad patches, and we are top, clear and unbeaten. The other results went our way yesterday and the second place team were as bad.
So on the whole, yeah it would be churlish to give them too much grief. I am sure the 5 players out made a difference, but the two things that worried me were:
1- The lack of pressure - the tempo was way down on previous games. We didn't get among them the way have in earlier games.
2- Midfield. We were missing in the centre and thats what killed us last year when the heavy grounds came. So I am hoping a rest and getting Doyle back will address those problems.

Aye West stand not gone to pot its just the odd sell out games. The wings of the West Stand are always the last to sell so they are the last available. Its still a good place if you just want to watch the game amongst a more restrained crowd. Agree about the facilities though, they are very sub standard considering its supposed to be the posh bit
