| You're a farmer. You're going to a market to buy some animals. On the market there are 3 types of animals for sale. You can buy Horses for £10 each, goats for £1 each, and ducks, you get 8 of these per bunch and each bunch costs £1. The aim is to acquire 100 animals at the cost of £100, what is the combination of horses, goats and ducks that allows you to do this? (you must buy at least one of each.) |

Got it!!!!
7 horses
21 Goats
72 Ducks or 9 bunches
let me explain as this is a bit of a fucker cause there's more variables than equations.
I'll label horses as a, goats as b, and sheep as c.
1) 10a + b + 1/8c = £100
2) a + b + c = 100
re-arrange number 2 to give:
3) c = 100 - a - b
replace c with 100 - a - b into 1) gives:
10a + b + 100/8 - a/8 - b/8 = 100
simplify that to give:
79a + 7b =700
Needed to crunch some numbers into a in the above equation so that the result of 79 * a is divisible by 7
Anyway I came up with a=7 meaning b=21
put those values into equation 3)
c=100-7-21
c= 72 _________________ The Donkey screamed and children cried...

b*st*rd
beat me to it.
worked it by trial and error. helped by a couple of pints of Taylors.
none of your fancy quadratic equations
nice one Mol. Kept the boys (and girl) busy for an hour last night. _________________ I was born to be a pessimist. My blood type is B Negative |

It's actually a diophantine equation. _________________ The Donkey screamed and children cried...
