Hello fellow Regers,

Shameless plug here.....I'm runing the Kielder Marathon on 17th October. Thought I'd give it a go as it is something I always wondered if I could do.

While I was at it I thought I should collect some cash for charity so I'm running for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable Foundation.

If you can spare any cash please donate.

Any training tips gratefully received, apart from the usual one I've received so far in various guises

Cheers.

Sounds great, I was reading about this race in a magazine recently.

Consider getting a 16 week training plan from here

http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/

Even if you don't follow it religiously it'll give you an idea on the balance of your running in preparation for it. I assume you have the right shoes - change them after 400 miles so keep a log of how far you run.

Enjoy it, and watch the pounds roll off! (not that your fat, like).

Cheers Butts! Got an email this week saying some places had been made available (thought I had no chance as International runners will be involved and Steve Cram is the instigator). Lost a bit of timber already, which is always a bonus.

Oh and the first rule of making sure you don't get injured:-

Don't increase your mileage by more than 10% week on week.

If you do hills or speedwork ease your way into them as well. I forgot this basic rule recently and as a result completely crocked.

(Second rule of running  - don't do what Stripe is doing).

I've sent an email to Stix - I'll report back if I get a reply.

Got a prompt reply. It was a qualified no. They receive on avg 450requests per week and already sponsor loads of charities/ppl/events.

Cheers for responding anyway Stix. I especially liked his sign off msg.

Had a brief look through your blog, it is very good and very thorough. Dead informative too. Nice one.
